The fixture was originally set down for mid-January at Gold Coast's Skilled Park but now it appears a March 5 date at the same venue will be announced.

FIFA took action against Kuwait last year by banning its national association from competing in FIFA competitions. This was the reason for the January Socceroo fixture to be cancelled.

It was the second time in 15 months the Kuwaitis were banned by FIFA for what was said to be meddling at a political level with the sport's national body.
This goes against the world governing body's statutes.

However, in late December the sanction was lifted along, with bans on Peru and Samoa. The FFA is now hoping the game can go ahead in early March.

Australia's return leg is also in doubt with FIFA chief Sepp Blatter warning that Kuwait's reprieve could be reversed at FIFA's June congress in the Bahamas unless the alleged political interference stopped.

If the game went ahead on March 5, it would be ideal timing for many A-League players. The finals will have just finished while the Mariners and Jets would kick off their respective ACL campaigns a week later.
