The coachless Socceroos have moved inside the top 40 for the first time since 2013 in the latest FIFA Rankings released overnight.
Australia have moved up four spots to 39th in the world, in light of the side's 2018 World Cup qualification where they defeated Honduras 3-1 on aggregate.
It is the Socceroos' best ranking since sitting 36th in the world four years ago in light of 2014 World Cup qualification.
Australia's ranking slid to 102nd in the world in 2014 but over the past 12 months has been steadily around the 40s and 50s.
The rankings rise will not affect the pools for next month's 2018 World Cup draw.
Australia remains Asia's second highest ranked team, behind Iran who are 32nd.
The Socceroos have moved above Turkey, Bulgaria, Cameroon and Nigeria.
