The Socceroos will head for the 2018 World Cup as the highest ranked Asian Football Confederation (AFC) nation after the release of the latest FIFA Rankings.
Australia have moved up four spots into 36th in the world in light of last Friday's 4-0 win over Czech Republic in St Polten.
The Socceroos leapfrogged Iran, who drop to 37th, to be the top ranked AFC nation.
Australia's Group C opponents France (seventh), Peru (11th) and Denmark (12th) remain unchanged.
The top seven remains unchanged, with Germany top ahead of Brazil, Belgium and Portugal, while Poland are the movers inside the top 10, up to eighth. Spain drop to 10th.
Among the AFC nations behind Australia and Iran are Korea Republic (57th), Japan (61st) and Saudi Arabia (67th).
Hosts Russia will head for their home tournament as the lowest ranked nation, dropped four places below Saudi Arabia to 70th.
