As part of his new role, Moretti will be required to undertake a special course that will see him fly to FIFA’s base in Switzerland on May 6. The course will help the native South Australian prepare for the August’s U-17 World Cup in Korea – the tournament earmarked for him to take the role as co-ordinator for the first time.

Moretti has previously held the position of Media Manager at Soccer Australia and was also appointed, again by FIFA, as a media officer for the 2002 World Cup. The new position will not affect his role with the Socceroos.

* Correction: au.fourfourtwo.com acknowledges that it incorrectly reported that Gary Moretti would become the first FIFA co-ordinator at major tournaments.

In fact, the honour has already gone to Vicki Marsic who is now the Administration Officer of the Johnny Warren Football Foundation. Vicki has acted as FIFA Assistant GC at the Women’s World Cup USA ’99 and as FIFA General Coordinator at the Women’s World Cup USA ’03 and the Women’s U/19 World Championship Thailand.

Additionally she has been FIFA Head of Transportation - Tokyo for the FIFA World Cup Korea/Japan in 2002 and as FIFA Accommodation Venue Manager – Hamburg FIFA World Cup Germany 2006.
