Melbourne Victory coach Kevin Muscat has stoked the fire ahead of Saturday’s Big Blue claiming “something’s got to give” for Sydney FC.
The A-League’s oldest rivals Victory and Sydney do battle at Allianz Stadium on Saturday, with the Sky Blues top of the table and into the FFA Cup final.
Victory moved up to third spot on the A-League ladder with Monday night’s 6-1 hammering of Wellington Phoenix to take form into the match.
“We go across there with a great deal of confidence,” Muscat told Fox Sports.
“They haven’t (conceded) yet, they haven’t lost yet, so something’s got to give.”
Muscat will be delighted with the return from injury of James Troisi, who he considered starting against Wellington.
However it seems the Sydney clash may come too early for new German recruit Maximilian Beister.
“I don’t want to put a timeframe on it,” Muscat said about Beister’s debut.
“He needs a little bit more work, understanding how we go about things an getting sharper.
“Certainly in the week he’s been here we’ve seen the quality that he possesses.
“It’d be unfair to involve him tonight and maybe possibly even Sydney, but we’ll have to wait and see.”
Muscat was definitive about the form of Marco Rojas ahead of the high-profile clash.
The Victory coach insisted Rojas, who scored a double and set up two other goals, had plenty more to give.
“He’s still got a lot more in him,” Muscat said. “His thirst for knowledge, to get better.
“It’s down to us to play to his strengths. When you do play to his strengths, he’s very dangerous and a livewire.”
