The 34-year-old defender, who has been hospitalised since collapsing at the end of a training session with VA on Wednesday, is yet to regain consciousness.

But he remains in a stable condition and there are encouraging signs five days on from the attack.

"There is no particular evolution," the club said today.

"David Sommeil is still unconscious, although there are some positive elements, like the fact he has good reflexes."

Sommeil, a father of two, will undergo neurological tests once he wakes up.

The former Bordeaux and Manchester City centre-back, who also had a spell at Sheffield United, was sat on a bench taking in fluid and talking to team-mates when he collapsed at the end of training.

A club doctor used a defibrillator on Sommeil, who had been given mouth-to-mouth by a team-mate.
