The two severed ties at the end of last seaosn but the Sony brand will again feature on the front of Phoenix's bold new home and alternate playing strips next season after Sony New Zealand secured increased investment for football.

officials wouldn't reveal the exact worth of the deal, but said it was "very, very beneficial".

"We're absolutely delighted to be involved in what will no doubt be another terrific season," said Sony New Zealand Managing Director Martin McManus.

McManus said the continued rise of the Wellington Phoenix, the club's commitment to excellence and the staggering growth of football in New Zealand created excellent synergies for the electronics giant.

"Football also has massive appeal across the globe and as a result Sony has official partnerships with FIFA, the UEFA Champions League and the Hyundai A-League," he said.

"For Sony New Zealand, sponsoring the Wellington Phoenix is about supporting football on our home turf and ensuring Sony and the club continues to lead the way in a code that has taken off spectacularly in this country.

"This year will be a massive one for football in New Zealand and Sony New Zealand is looking forward to being there every step of the way."

Phoenix chief executive Tony Pignata said the partnership with Sony was an incredible result for the club just days out from Phoenix's first match of their new A-League campaign, away to the Newcastle Jets on Sunday.

"Times are tough economically and continuing a sponsorship partnership with a company the calibre of Sony is a real coup for the club and proof that the Phoenix, the Hyundai A-League and football in New Zealand is really going places," he said.

"Together with Sony we're looking forward to being a significant part of something bigger."

In further significant club sponsorship news, Wellington Beds has upgraded its relationship with Phoenix. After two seasons on the Phoenix playing shorts, the bold Wellington Beds logo will now feature on the sleeve of the Phoenix's playing strip.

"(Wellington Beds owner) Paul Bary has been a tremendous supporter of the club since day one," Pignata said. "We're thrilled that he recognises the value of the partnership and has committed to boosting his company's involvement by becoming sleeve sponsor."
