FOOTBALL South Coast's push for elite football will be strengthened by serving an apprenticeship of staging National Youth League and W-League games, says its chairman.
Saturday's Sydney FC W-League/Youth League double header at WIN Stadium is another chance for Wollongong to show its support for football.
The Sky Blues will be in town for the second time in as many months when they host Brisbane Roar (NYL) and Perth (W-League).
Football South Coast chairman Eddy De Gabriele is adamant matches at WIN Stadium are all part of an 'apprenticeship' process.
"It's part of our plan to firstly introduce W-League and Youth League to the region," De Gabriele told the Illawara Mercury.
"We're serving an apprenticeship to show FFA (Football Federation Australia) what we are capable of and to prove to them that this region should have an A-League side in the long term future.
"We want to be in a position where we capture any opportunity to bring elite national level football to this region.
"The fact we're getting this game shows the FFA are looking into this region."
Earlier this week, Tasmania's A-League bid team stressed that it remained as determined as ever to bring A-League football to the state.
