EXCLUSIVE: South Coast NSW's A-League bid insist there is a Plan B if WIN Stadium’s redevelopment plan stalls but they're confident they won’t need any alternatives.
WIN Stadium in Wollongong is the preferred venue for South Coast Football, the area's A-League bid, but the ramshackle western grandstand remains a stumbling block with state and federal governments yet to commit funds to help rebuild it.
"The WIN stadium facility is obviously still a problem with regards ticking off all the boxes for the bid," bid supremo Eddy De Gabriele told au.fourfourtwo.com.
"But we do have a plan B," admitted De Gabriele, but he did not disclose which stadium or area they had in mind.
Aside from the stadium issue, the bid continues to generate interest with an announcement tipped in the next month regarding an investor.
"We're speaking to three investors concurrently," he added. "We've got an enormous amount of interest in two of them. The third investor is talking about full ownership of the club.
"The other two are more interested in taking equity in a community engagement model."
The South Coast bid has been in touch with the FFA on a regular basis since it was passed over for Gold Coast and Townsville franchises in 2008.
De Gabrielle also congratulated the Tasmanian A-League bid for reportedly luring an Ethiopian Sheik as a potential investor.
He said: "If it's true, and it all works out, then I congratulate them."
