South Korea carried on their good form from the World Cup by defeating Nigeria 2-1 in a friendly at Suwon World Cup Stadium today.
Less than two months after the two teams played out a 2-2 draw in South Africa, first-half goals from debutant Yoon Bitgaram and Choi Hyo-jin gave the hosts and new coach Cho Kwang-rae a welcome win. Peter Odemwingie was Nigeria's goalscorer.
Yoon opened the scoring and his international account after 17 minutes, beating a Nigerian defender in the air and then unleashing a half-volley into the roof of the net from the right side of the penalty area.
Odemwingie levelled the scores just minutes later, heading a left-sided free-kick from Kalu Uche past goalkeeper Lee Woon-jae, who was making his final appearance for the national team.
Four minutes before the break, Choi ran on to a Park Ji-sung pass just inside the area and slotted the ball home.
South Korea, preparing for the 2011 Asian Cup in January, had chances to add to their advantage after the break but were unable to do so.
Meanwhile, China were held to a 1-1 draw by Bahrain at Guangxi Sports Centre.
Yu Hai put the hosts ahead after just 10 minutes with a diving header from Hao Junmin's clipped pass but Bahrain responded just six minutes later as Ismaeel Abdullatif latched onto Hassan Al Berri's low cross from the right of the box before firing beyond goalkeeper Yang Zhi.
Deng Zhuoxiang almost restored China's lead a minute later but was inches away from tapping home Yan Xiangchuang's pass.
Both sides visibly tired after the break meaning chances were at a premium, with Zhao Xuri's long-range shot the only effort of note before the final whistle.
