ROMANIA based Aussie Spase Dilevski believes he's an outside shot at making the World Cup squad but knows he needs a big end to the season.
The 24-year-old midfielder, who was formerly with A-League outfit Brisbane Roar, currently plies his trade in Romania's Liga I with Universitatea Craiova.
But Dilevski has been struck down by injury since mid-November, although with the Romanian season resuming on February 21 after their winter break, he's keen to get back into the action to bolster his World Cup hopes.
"I must play and do well, especially because there is still hope to make the World Cup this summer," Dilevski told the Craiova website.
Dilevski, who had spells at Tottenham and PSV Eindhoven earlier in his career, had been a regular at Craiova prior to his injury, although he may no longer be a first-choice after the arrival of new Dutch boss Mark Wotte in January.
Nevertheless, Dilevski, who was capped at all international under-age levels, curiously had to dismiss speculation Wotte's appointment might give him an advantage with fellow Dutchman Verbeek.
"I don't think it is necessarily an advantage for me that the Australia coach, Pim Verbeek, is a compatriot of my club coach," he said. "The coach can be Chinese, Australian or Dutch, but if you're not fit, you do not play."
Dilevski went onto explain he was desperate for an emphatic return to form for Craiova.
Universitatea, who are one of Romania's best supported clubs, have been struggling this season and currently sit just one spot outside the drop zone in 14th.
Their struggles have seen the club make many changes in the last few months including the release of Australian trio Joshua Rose, Josh Mitchell and Michael Baird.
Dilevski added: "I'm sorry to see Rose, Mitchell and Baird have left, but life and football goes on for them and for me. We will all continue our careers and hope to do well."
