MARK Viduka missed the game but Craig Moore, Tony Popovic and Ante Milicic rolled back the years in Spider Kalac's farewell match for Sydney United against Newcastle Jets today.
The A-League side won the friendly 2-0 with first half goals to Ali Abbas and Jeremy Brockie but most of the 3,000 strong crowd at Sydney's Edensor Park were there to see the former club great Kalac alongside some of big names in Australian football play his final ever game.
Kalac was substituted late in the game to a standing ovation from the crowd as players from both sides offered their congratulations to the former AC Milan and Socceroo.
Popovic, Milicic and Moore also took early showers after showing some impressive touches for the United side. Former United and Sydney FC defender Mark Rudan also turned out for the home side.
It was a keenly fought contest that provided the Jets with another important hitout three weeks from the start of the A-League. Kasey Wehrman and Ben Kantarovski caught the eye for the Jets. Former Glory striker Luka Glavas put in an effective shift after coming on a substitute for United.
Viduka was to have played for Kalac's side but the former great flew back to Croatia late in the week due to family issues, explained organisers.
Kalac retired from the national team in 2006 and most recently played for Kavala in Greece.
