INTERIM Socceroo coach Han Berger believes Matt Spiranovic will play a big part in the campaign for Brazil 2014 but has left him out of the Slovenia friendly next week.
Spiranovic, 22, is one of the brightest of the new generation of Socceroo defenders but has endured some frustrating injuries during recent years in the German Bundesliga.
But now the Urawa Red Diamonds defender is seeing game time in the J.League which has prompted Berger to leave the Geelong-born star out of the squad to play in Slovenia.
"Matthew Spiranovic is one of the players who after discussing with Matthew and his coach we decided to leave Matthew out for this game at Urawa," said Berger.
"Because he has just started in a starting position and for him to travel to Europe and back in-between J-League matches wouldn't do his position any good."
Berger added there were a number of other players who he and his assistant Aurelio Vidmar felt were best served by staying at their clubs.
"But he's absolutely an option for the future and he was in the squad for now but because of that, we left him out," Berger added.
The interim Roo coach also revealed that former Victory keeper Mitchell Langerak was on the standby list for this Socceroo squad.
And Berger added that A-League players will be considered for the two September friendlies in Europe against Switzerland on September 3 and Poland four days later.
