Rangers were 2-0 winners away to Hibernian with Nikica Jelavic scoring from the penalty spot and with a header, both in the second half.

Celtic kept pace with their Glasgow rivals as Victor Wanyama scored his first goal for the club in a 1-0 win over Hearts.

But the Hoops were indebted to goalkeeper Fraser Forster who saved a late penalty from Eggert Johnsson after Wanyama had handled in the box.

A wonderful strike from Graham Carey gave St Mirren a share of the spoils against 10-man Aberdeen in a pulsating 2-2 draw at Pittodrie.

Aberdeen took an early two-goal lead through Scott Vernon and Rory Fallon.

But Kenny McLean pulled a goal back and Graham Carey's wonderful 35-yard free-kick ensured a draw.

Fraser Fyvie appeared to have scored a late winner for Aberdeen when his cross was fumbled into the net by Craig Samson, but the goal was ruled out for offside and the midfielder was shown a straight red for dissent following the decision.

Dundee United completed a barnstorming comeback to win 3-2 at Inverness who finished the game with 10 men.

Early goals in either half from Johnny Hayes and Billy McKay put Inverness in front, but United replacement Johnny Russell reduced the lead before a Roman Golobart own-goal levelled.

Russell then won the match, while David Davis was dismissed for two bookable offences.

Omar Daley and Jamie Murphy did the damage as Motherwell consigned Steve Lomas to his first defeat as St Johnstone manager.

The Motherwell wide men both converted crosses before Murphy then appeared to glance home Daley's strike midway through the second half as the visitors won 3-0.
