BRETT Emerton missed from the penalty spot in the dying seconds overnight as Blackburn Rovers reserves crashed 2-1 to Lancashire rivals Bolton Wanderers.
Emerton was one of several senior Rovers players to feature in the encounter - another chance for the Socceroo to get valuable game time under his belt after a long spell out through injury - but it wasn't a happy occasion.
Steven Reid put Rovers ahead before Bolton fought back to take a 2-1 lead. But in stoppage time Rovers were awarded a penalty and up stepped Emmo.
Sadly for the Aussie, Bolton keeper Ali Al Habsi dived to his left to make the save. At least Emmo was able to get a whole 90 minutes under his belt.
