The former Sporting Lisbon staffer joins compatriot Andre Villas-Boas at White Hart Lane following the ex-Chelsea manager signing a four-year deal to replace Harry Redknapp last week.

Martins brings with him a wealth of experience, winning Under-17 and Under-19 national titles with Sporting Lisbon, while helping nurture young talent such as Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo and Manchester United winger, Nani, as well as Tottenham target Joao Moutinho.

Following his exploits with youth set-ups, the 48-year-old was promoted to assistant coach to the Sporting Lisbon first-team team in 2004, helping the side reach the final of the then Uefa Cup, before moving on to SC Braga in 2008 as head of youth development.

Martin spent the last two years in Saudi Arabia, initially coaching the national team, before becoming involved with club side Al-Ahly last season, guiding their Under-23 side to the national championship.

He will join up with the Tottenham squad ahead of their first pre-season friendly against Stevenage on July 17.
