TOTTENHAM boss Harry Redknapp insists he is "nowhere near" to signing Chelsea goalkeeper Carlo Cudicini after allowing Spanish veteran Cesar Sanchez to join Valencia.
Redknapp is stepping up his search for a back-up stopper to cover for and compete with Heurelho Gomes, who has established himself as number one after a dreadful start to his career at White Hart Lane.
Cudicini falls into the right category but important factors could be the plans of Chelsea boss Luiz Felipe Scolari and the wages of the 35-year-old Italian.
"I'm nowhere near to signing Cudicini," Redknapp said. "We're looking for another good goalkeeper."
Redknapp admitted he had little faith in Cesar, with Gomes playing despite carrying an injury.
Valencia have confirmed the 37-year-old goalkeeper has completed his move after completing a medical.
Cesar, who counts Valladolid and Real Madrid among his former clubs, joined Spurs from Real Zaragoza last summer but found his chances limited.
Valencia have been searching for goalkeeping reinforcements after first-choice Renan Brito suffered an injury last weekend that is set to sideline him for around six weeks.
Meanwhile, Redknapp is also looking for another striker and has been linked with Carlton Cole, but added: "I'm sure West Ham would not want to sell him so that is an absolute non-goer."
