Melbourne Victory captain Carl Valeri says his squad is maintaining a “strong belief” in what coach Kevin Muscat is trying to achieve.
Victory are performing below expectations this season and sit seventh on the table going into their clash against Brisbane Roar on Sunday.
The skipper denied any claims the senior players were getting too comfortable and maintained full faith in the manager.
“Everything comes under scrutiny when things aren’t going well, we have a strong belief in each other with what Musky has created here and it’s a great environment,” Valeri said on Friday.
“It’s a great group regardless of what people are saying, we really work hard for each other, but our actions need to show that on the park.
“Changes will be based on training, the team is picked based on training and how hard everyone is working in training and that’s what it always has been and what it is now.
“At Victory we’re expected to be at the top, that’s where we want to be and strive to be until it’s mathematically impossible.”
The Big V have suffered another blow with Socceroo Mark Milligan ruled out with a hamstring injury he picked up in their 2-1 loss to Adelaide United last week.
The loss against the Reds was Victory’s lowest home attendance of the season with 16,778 fans showing up to Etihad Stadium.
Valeri was wary the club's supporters could be getting impatient.
“Fans would be frustrated just like we are, but we’re working hard to change that,” he said. “We understand how important our fans are.
“We’re always under pressure at Melbourne Victory, that’s part of being here, we’re expected to win, we can do a lot better and we know we can.
“We’ve been working hard during the week and focusing all our energy on what we can affect and that’s the performance against Brisbane.”
