SOCCEROO Mile Sterjovski's move to Derby has been put on ice after his UK work permit was turned down because he hasn't played enough Australia games.
Derby are planning to appeal the decision but the move has huge implications for the rest of the Euroroos.
With more and more first team Socceroos opting to stay with their clubs instead of representing their country, the Sterjovski decision could seriously affect their future.
Sterj's transfer from Genclerbirligi OFTAS has been delayed because he missed just one Socceroos game that was an A-League-based squad, according to Derby boss Paul Jewell.
“Mile is over here and he is a good player who would improve us but bureaucracy is getting in the way,” manager Jewell told the club's official website.
“He has to go and apply for a work permit. We think he is worth one and the one game he missed for Australia was when they made the decision not to play any Europe-based players.”
He added: "The people who make the decisions won't give us clearance, we have got to appeal."
Sterjovski has made 33 international appearances and scored five goals since making his Australia debut in 2000.
