PSV Eindhoven coach Huub Stevens was angry at his side for suffering an 'unnecessary defeat' against Atletico Madrid last night.
Atletico enjoyed a flying start with goals inside the opening 30 minutes from Simao Sabrosa and Maxi Rodriguez.
The Rojiblancos had chances to be further in front by the break, but they failed to take them and PSV threatened to make them pay as Danny Koevermans pulled a goal back immediately after half-time.
But the Eredivisie champions could not find an equaliser as Atletico held on to qualify for the last 16 of the Champions League.
"This was an unnecessary defeat," said Stevens.
"We failed miserably in the first half.
"When you see how easily the match can turn around in the second half, you are disappointed."
In an empty Vicente Calderon - no fans were allowed inside the ground due to a UEFA ban following crowd incidents during Atletico's home match against Marseille in October - PSV conceded two sloppy goals to put them on the back foot.
"If you look at the way we gave away those goals... my oh my. That makes me angry."
