Stoke City defender Robert Huth has been taken to hospital with suspected meningitis, the club have confirmed.
The German international was suffering from the virus during training when club doctors decided to send the 27-year old to hospital.
The club commented on their official Twitter page to confirm Huth's condition: "The club can confirm that Robert Huth has suspected meningitis and that they are awaiting the outcome of further tests."
With Chelsea's Daniel Sturridge recently making a speedy recovery from viral meningitis, if Huth's condition is confirmed then perhaps a return to action could be sooner than expected and Potters manager Pulis is hoping the virus is not too serious.
"It's a major concern so close to the start of the new season because Huthy is such an important figure for us," Pulis told the club's official website after the pre-season draw with Torquay.
"It takes a lot to knock Huthy back, but he was clearly not well, so we have sent him to hospital and will hopefully have the results of the tests on him tomorrow.
"We're just hoping he will be okay and it's not too serious."
Stoke begin their Premier League campaign with a trip to newly promoted Reading on August 18.
