Reds’ phenomenon Ryan Strain has signed a two-year contract extension, keeping him in Adelaide until the end of the 2019/20 season.
In Round 8, on a one-year scholarship with the first team, Strain became the 30th Young Reds’ product to make his debut for the club.
Testament to the South Australian side’s impressive academy, Strain wasted no time stamping his authority on the A-League, starting all four of his league matches this season.
The English-born fullback has an impressive sporting pedigree; he started his youth career with Aston Villa, his mother’s a former Olympian, and his grandfather was a professional footballer.
He’s also already gained some attention from the Young Socceroos. But the 20-year-old said he was still surprised to earn an extension so quickly.
“I’m extremely happy,” he said. “I didn’t think it would happen this quickly to be honest.
“I’m just really happy because I think I took my chance.”
Adelaide coach, Marco Kurz, believes Strain is constantly improving under his stewardship.
“Ryan is proving to be a strong defender and has come into our starting team very smoothly,” Kurz said.
“I am delighted that Ryan has decided to extend his career with us at Adelaide and I can see much improvement in his football over this time.”
