The Sevilla forward was named man of the match after his double and an Elano goal sent Brazil on their way to a 3-1 win.

They were his first goals for his country in 2010 after going five matches without scoring and helped Brazil take full charge of Group G with six points from their two games.

"Luis Fabiano had a great performance," Dunga said. "I placed a lot of trust in him, as did all his team-mates.

"Of course he hadn't scored in the last five matches. He's always responded in a very positive way and obviously if a forward doesn't score for a while he becomes impatient.

"We had to try and remove this anxiety. All our technical team worked on that and we knew that the moment would arrive for Luis Fabiano and he would score.

"So we are really pleased for him."

The Selecao boss was also happy with the way his side bounced back after their below-par display in beating North Korea 2-1 in their opening game.

Dunga felt that it was not only his side that struggled in the first round of games.

He added: "This is the most unusual World Cup that we have ever seen, I believe.

"The first game is difficult, not only for Brazil, but for all the national teams that have played here.

"They were anxious and you will notice the second round of games have improved in quality and against Ivory Coast we played a team that didn't allow us to play.

"They were a very physical team and I asked my players to find their game and we were patient and scored the goals we needed."

Ivory Coast coach Sven-Goran Eriksson heaped full praise on Brazil, saying he expected them to be in the thick of things when the tournament reached its business end in just under three weeks' time.

He said: "The South Americans always have very good sides at World Cups. I think the Brazilian side can go the whole way. I think so, they have a very good team.

"Their attack and defence is very good and it's difficult to beat them."

The Swede also felt that "small mistakes" were the Elephants' biggest letdown at Soccer City.

He added: "I think we were very organised, just as we were in the last game against Portugal. But this time we made a couple of small mistakes and we lost.

"If you make a mistake against Brazil, they are very good at punishing you. They are very good in small spaces and they showed that."
