The two players have failed to score in the last 25 games between them and Strachan has to decide which one will partner Scott McDonald in tomorrow's Co-operative Insurance Cup final against Rangers.

McBride, who scored an incredible 86 goals in 94 games for Celtic during his spell at the club in the 1960s, feels Strachan has chopped and changed the side often enough to give both players the opportunity to shine.

The former Motherwell and Hibernian striker, at Hampden Park to publicise the tournament which he won twice as a Celtic player, believes top-scorer McDonald has also been affected by his strike partners' loss of form.

"Scott McDonald is a very good striker but he is also suffering from his team-mates not hitting the target," he said.

"He came through a spell when he went off the boil but he came back and his second goal at Kilmarnock the other week was absolutely fantastic.

"Gordon Strachan has taken all three of them out at different times and has not been afraid to take McDonald off. So they are all getting a chance to find their form.

"To pinpoint why the two big men are not scoring is a hard, hard thing to do. One lucky goal would turn the tide for them.

"If it was my choice for Sunday, I would play McDonald and Vennegoor of Hesselink. I think Samaras has a tendency to drop deep, instead of going forward.

"But this is going to be a very tight game. Neither side are the greatest and are not playing as well as they possibly can and there is not a great deal between them."
