Ajax forward Miralem Sulejmani admits he has found it difficult to adapt after becoming the club's record signing last summer.
The Serbia international is facing mounting criticism from fans and media as the Amsterdammers' title challenge continues to fade and his own performances remain highly inconsistent.
Marco van Basten's side beat rivals Feyenoord last weekend but Sulejmani, a 16million euro signing from Heerenveen, again came in for criticism.
However, the 20-year-old forward countered: "I was out for long time with a hamstring injury.
"Besides that, when you play for Ajax you get less space than as player of Heerenveen.
"Opponents are also much more motivated. Against Ajax everybody gives more than 150%. And I also play in a different system than at Heerenveen."
Angry supporters invaded the Ajax training pitch recently but Sulejmani insists he understands their ire.
"It was no fun, a bit frightening even. But I also understand it. At Ajax you need to win everything", he continued on voetbalprimeur.nl.
