THE 2010/2011 A-League Grand Final at Brisbane's Suncorp Stadium could be headed for a sell-out after promising early signs with 30,000 tickets already snapped up for next weekend's decider.
A-League premiers Brisbane Roar will host either Central Coast Mariners or Gold Coast United at Suncorp Stadium on Sunday March 13.
Tickets went on sale to the public on Saturday morning with more than 10,000 sold, along with the 20,000 already landed by the 'Football Family' and club and stadium members.
There had been speculation ticket prices were too inflated which may have scared away punters, but early indications are good for a sell-out at the 52,500 capacity Suncorp Stadium.
Football Federation Australia spokesman Mark Jensen said the FFA were yet to start their marketing push for the Grand Final, so early sales were promising.
“Today's the first day the tickets went on sale to the general public and we haven't even started promoting properly yet," Jensen told The Courier Mail.
“We are looking for a pretty strong rush early next week with another lot of tickets for away members being available on Sunday evening.”
And as part of the matchday entertainment, FFA announced Brisbane rock band Regurgitator will play a 15-minute set prior to kick-off.
A-League head Lyall Gorman said: “Next Sunday will be a major milestone for the city of Brisbane.
“Following a truly record breaking season, Brisbane have earned the right to showcase their talents in front of what will no doubt be a packed Suncorp Stadium to watch Brisbane Roar attempt to win their first Hyundai A-League Grand Final.
“Sunday March 13 will be a celebration not only of the Roar’s season but for Brisbane following what has been a very difficult six months.
“To have a home grown band like Reguritator play will no doubt bring a lot of added excitement and we are planning for it to be a very special occasion.”
In other news, Suncorp Stadium staff told The Courier Mail it was equipped to handle a busy schedule next weekend with Brisbane Broncos playing North Queensland Cowboys in the NRL on Friday night, before the A-League decider.
Suncorp Stadium spokesman Greg Adermann said: “We host lots of double headers here, so this is nothing new to us. It's great just to be back playing events at the stadium after what we've been through.”
