Today Boutsianis takes the reins of Surfers Paradise Apollo in the Gold Coast Premier League ahead of season 2010.

The former Perth Glory and South Melbourne hero capped four times for the Socceroos says he sees his role as one of developing younger players for higher levels.

"It's very important that a club like Apollo is a place where we can develop young talent rather than a place for older players who perhaps don't have that ambition or attitude," he told au.fourfourtwo.com.

"Yes, a bit of experience is important but the focus will be on development. And I will make sure the players will be working hard in training.

"It's the only way, you must put the work in if you want to progress to the A-League either here or beyond."

Boutsianis was a set piece specialist scoring numerous memorable goals from distance in his career. Last year, he mentored US star Carli Lloyd on set piece taking prior to the 2008 Olympics. He also runs his own academy called Football First.
