EXCLUSIVE: Seventeen-year-old Surfers Paradise footballer Aidan McWilliams is celebrating winning last weekend's Brisbane trials of soccer TV show Football Superstar.
McWilliams will now make up one of the 50 players at the selection week next month.
That number will then be whittled down to 15 before the final countdown to see who’s crowned Football Superstar, with the winner receiving a year-long contract with Sydney FC.
In Brisbane on Sunday, McWilliams starred in the one-v-one drills winning his game 12-1. Other players to shine included the Stevin brothers, Corey and Karl.
The drills undertook are based on speed, skill and accuracy and are assessed mathematically via a computer.
Queensland Roar star Michael Zullo was a special guest at the Brisbane roadshow and according to the show’s producer Marty Benson, the Roar flyer noted that many of the drills the boys went through were similar to what he’s experienced in the A-League.
“And the fact that Michael is the same age as many of the trialists meant many of the guys actually had played against him before,” added Benson.
The show’s producers have confirmed the final 15 players will stay in a “palatial” house close to the training grounds at Macquarie University in Sydney.
The house will have its own football pitch, a cinema to watch the Socceroos play and a full-time mature couple to look after the day to day running of the house.
“There won’t be fixed cameras like Big Brother in the house. This show is all about the football and finding the next football superstar,” added Benson.
This weekend, Football Superstar roadshow touches down in Perth followed by Adelaide and Sydney (see details below).
