After standing out for Australia at the AFC Under-23 Championship last month, Aleksandar Susnjar is set to make his debut for new Czech club Mlada Boleslav this weekend.
Susnjar, 22, looms as a 2018 World Cup bolter after playing every minute of Australia's AFC Under-23 Championship campaign on the back of good club form in Europe.
The relative unknown left Perth for Europe in his early teens and has had an unlikely journey, playing in Lithuania, Serbia, Romania and now the Czech Republic.
Susnjar left Czech club Teplice for Mlada Boleslav, joining Australian Golgol Mebrahtu during the January transfer window.
The Perth-born, left-sided central defender has signed a three-year deal with Mlada Boleslav, who won the Czech Cup in 2016 and competed in Europe earlier this season.
Susjnar is in line to debut when the Czech top flight resumes this weekend, with Mlada Boleslav taking on Karvina on Sunday morning (1am AEDT).
“I’ve been training, preparing myself for it and getting a bit of a buzz," Susnjar told FourFourTwo.
“I’m hoping to make my debut from how it’s been looking so far I think I’ll be in the starting XI.
"I don’t speak to the coach about that but from what I see on my end, it’s looking good to make my debut this weekend."

Susnjar doesn't take a backwards step when speaking about his eagerness to press his Australia claims with a view to a World Cup berth.
New Socceroos boss Bert van Marwijk has an extra reason to travel, or send scouts to, the Czech Republic with Mebrahtu also impressing with nine goals for Mlada this term.
Susjnar has already impressed the Australia set-up with his performances at last month's continental championships in China under Ante Milicic.
“I spoke to a couple of guys from the federation who said I’m in the extended squad," Susnjar said.
"There’s always a chance of being called up for these two friendly matches (against Norway and Colombia in March).
"If I do get that call-up it’s all up to me to prove myself which I believe I can do."
Susnjar has never previously received a senior call-up but he said van Marwijk's appointment meant a clean slate.
"It’s not only me starting afresh, it’s everyone," he said.
"People that have been there, it’s a bit different, but when a coach changes it’s a different style of football and you have to adapt to that.”
