The matches involving Mexican sides Guadalajara and San Luis were postponed by the South American confederation (CONMEBOL) earlier this week.

The Colombian capital Bogota had initially been mentioned as a venue for the matches but they rejected the opportunity, and so now have Chile.

Julio Montt, in charge of social welfare in Chile, said: "We have not received any formal request about hosting the Mexican teams. However, we have decided as a ministry that we would not accept that request.

"We have to be aware of our recommendations. We recommend avoiding flights to Mexico, postponing them or only making trips that are impossible to reschedule."

The Chilean FA (ANFP) expressed their disappointment for failing in their attempt to help the Mexican teams.

"(The federation) will always keep, among the values of the actions, the solidarity with those who really need support in very difficult moments. That is the case of the two Mexican teams," a statement on www.anfp.cl read.

"This federation accepts, and regrets at the same time, the decision, as it misses the opportunity to prove the sense of solidarity the Chilean people have had in many chapters of their history."

Reports in the United States suggest the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum would host the matches, while the CONMEBOL are expected to announce their final decision on Monday.
