The Sky Blues started the 2016/17 A-League season with seven wins before last Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Brisbane ended their perfect record.

But Arnold said they had a greater goal - channeling the Arsenal side of the 2003-04 English Premier League season which went unbeaten.

“Yes, why not,” Arnold said when asked if going the season undefeated was possible.

“I showed the players some footage of Thierry Henry and his interview about the Arsenal Invincibles. There’s no reason why we can’t.

“That’s our aim. Our aim is to be the A-League Invincibles and go through the season undefeated.”

Can Sydney FC replicate the Arsenal invincibles?

Arnold said the players were full of belief in what the coaching staff have implemented this term, including becoming the “fittest team in the A-League”.

“It’s something that I’m big on, is belief,” Arnold said.

“It’s not only about having belief in the players and each other, but also them having belief in what the coaching staff and the club are doing.”

Sydney FC have been on fire this season

Meanwhile, Arnold distanced Sydney with any link to former Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard.

The 36-year-old midfielder will leave Los Angeles Galaxy next month and has been rumoured with an Australian switch.

“We haven’t spoken about that,” Arnold said.

“We’re very happy with the squad we’ve got at the moment.

“We’re entertaining, we’re playing good and the boys have a lot of belief and trust in each other.

“Sometimes that can be a distraction.”
