Sydney FC have created A-League history by breaking Western Sydney Wanderers’ record for most points in a 27-round season with Sunday’s 3-0 win at Perth Glory.
The newly crowned premiers moved on to 59 points with three games to play with the win, eclipsing Wanderers’ previous mark of 57 points.
Sydney have already set their sights on Brisbane Roar’s 30-round record haul of 65 points from the 2010-11 season.
The Sky Blues would need to win at least two of their remaining three fixtures to level with Roar’s record.
Three wins or two wins and a draw would be enough to outright claim the record.
Sydney are due to play Melbourne City (home), Wellington Phoenix (away) and Newcastle Jets (home) in their final three fixtures.
Sky Blues midfielder Brandon O’Neill was on the scoresheet against Glory and was delighted to create history.
“It was nice (to score) but more importantly we created history tonight,” O’Neill told Fox Sports.
“We got back on the horse, three points and now we have a game back in front of our home fans against Melbourne City.”
The Sky Blues can also break the record for most wins in any A-League season with one more victory, currently held by Brisbane (2010-11) and Wanderers (2012-13) with 18.
If Sydney win away to Wellington, they will break the record for most away wins in a season, currently held by Wanderers (2012-13) with 10.
Sydney also appear set to break the record held by Brisbane (2010-11) for best goal difference in season. Brisbane's goal difference was +32, with Sydney's currently +38.
The side already set the record for the longest unbeaten run to start the season.
