Adelaide have lost all five encounters at Sydney Football Stadium but Vidmar believes his new-look side can stop the rot.

“We’ve had that many changes in the playing personnel and also around the club,” he said. “It will take a little while to gel but we believe we’ve taken the right steps. There’s a lot to improve but we’re expecting to do well.

“We’re expecting a big game, the Sydney matches always tend to be huge battles.”

While the Adelaide-Sydney rivalry has been rated as amongst the most intense in the competition, Vidmar opted to take the emotion out of it when speaking with au.fourfourtwo.com.

He said: “It has been a rivalry but I don’t know if the dynamics have changed now. Branko is there and I’m in so the whole landscape has changed.

“We’ve got ten different players in our squad. It will be interesting to see how it pans out.

"Sydney were champions a couple of years ago and everyone wanted to beat them. Melbourne were champions last year and everyone wants to beat them this year. "

Vidmar has admitted he’s wary of the blossoming combination between Sydney FC pairing Juninho and Steve Corica but says Sydney’s strength is a feature throughout the squad.

“They’re a fantastic pairing,” he said. “Steve Corica is a very smart footballer and someone who can score goals.

"Juninho is a class player, he’s a World Cup winner for God’s sake! He’s no mug. Those two combining last week with their double passes and getting into the boxes... it’s a huge handful.

“But Sydney are a threat all over the park with or without Juninho," he added. "He’s going to add unpredictability but have a look at their whole squad.

“They’ve included Poppa now at the back who adds a lot of experience, Steve Corica is there, Brosquey is dangerous with the ball at his feet, they have aggression in Zadkovich, they’ve got Talay, Milligan, Rudan... and we’re not sure if Patrick will be playing.

"There’s an option there and we don’t much about him. They’re a team that will do damage to you.”

With Paul Agostino set to start from the bench, Vidmar is once again relying on youngsters Bruce Djite and Nathan Burns to make their mark.

But he warns their recent globetrotting for the Olyroos may yet catch up with them.

“Their travel situation wasn’t easy before the Roar game," he said. "They did a lot of travel the day before and then arrived in Queensland and still managed to perform like that.

“In my experiences though, it’s generally the second week when it hits you. But they had a recovery at the beach and Tuesday off. When they came back after that, they looked fresh and that’s going to be the key.”
