The reigning A-League premiers have collected just two points from their first five matches and sit bottom of the table following Saturday night's 3-1 loss to Adelaide United.

Speaking to Fox Sports after the game, Lavicka was at a loss to explain their slow start to the campaign.

"We expected a different start to the season," he said. "Now we have troubles.

"Last season, we showed we were champions, in this moment we have trouble.

"It's easy to give up, but this isn't our mentality. We need to analyse the game, we need pick up more confidence and pick up some points.

"I believe we'll be able to turn it."

Lavicka admitted the Reds caused the Sky Blues all sorted of problems and deserved the points on Saturday night.

"Adelaide was the much better team tonight and they deserved it," he said. "We had problems when we conceded the early goal.

"We had big, big troubles to stop their quality, attacking players, like Sergio van Dijk, (Marcos) Flores and (Mathew) Leckie."

The Czech boss also added he was not sure when injured pair Alex Brosque and Terry McFlynn would return.

"It's hard to say when he'll be available," Lavicka said about Brosque.

"Alex Brosque has a problem with his ankle ligament and he needs more time, because we won't risk him now because the season is very long.

"We need him 100 per cent, similar to Terry McFlynn."

Sydney's next match is the difficult away trip to Wellington Phoenix on Saturday.
