FORMER Aston Villa defender Alan Wright is being lined up by Sydney FC as a possible replacement for long-term absentee Michael Enfield.
The American midfielder recently underwent knee reconstruction surgery, which is expected to sideline him for nine months, with Sydney coach Branko Culina now looking for someone to fill the gap left by Enfield.
Veteran Wright is one alternative and has been offered a trial by the A-League club.
The 36-year-old has made more than 600 league appearances for various clubs in England and is currently on trial at Oldham.
"He (Wright) is one of the options," Culina said. "He's indicated he'd be interested and we've got to look at whether he's got the quality that we're looking for.
"He hasn't been playing on a regular basis recently and you can't really judge by what people did a while back so until you see him you don't know.
"We've said all along that an attacker would give us more options, but we also do need a little bit more strength-in-depth in defence.
"We're looking for quality players and it's hard to get quality, so we keep searching but it's fair to say we want to do it fairly quickly."
