The club has three firm options on the table for a state of the art training and administrative complex for their A-League, W-League and youth academy teams.

Moore Park West and Macquarie University as well as local council sites in the club's heartland area are under consideration with proposed 20 to 30 year lease agreements.

Sydney FC CEO Danny Townsend confirmed they "would like to transition" into a new facility upon the expiry of their agreement with Macquarie University in mid 2021.

"We are in conversations with the Trusts in Moore Park, Macquarie University and a few other local councils to determine what available fields there are to base our future Centre of Excellence," Townsend told FTBL.

Townsend believes picking the right spot means better accessibility, encouraging elite development and community engagement.

"We are looking for a facility with a minimum of three fields, ideally four," said Townsend.

"That's where the challenges come into play. We don't want to build a facility that will dislodge any community football.

"We're not going to build a big wall and operate in secret. Where we are in the business cycle of our football club is about being open, transparent and inclusive.

Sydney FC have been training at Macquarie University since 2007

"[We want to] build an NPL home base to host NPL and Academy/Youth matches. We would be open to sharing that with another NPL club if it made sense."

Sydney FC's history with Macquarie University as its training base since 2007 could put it in pole position to be one of the favourites for the new site.

The club are involved in discussions about the university's long term masterplan for the playing fields. It involves identifying its use either for students, the community or for elite sport.

"We are working with them and expect to be part of an expression of interest that will be distributed in the next four weeks," said Townsend.

Moore Park West currently has a number of playing fields fit for rugby and football, including a cricket oval close to the site of Sydney FC's soon-to-be redeveloped home, Allianz Stadium.

The Moore Park West site

The club's offices currently sit in the Moore Park complex and Townsend welcomed the potential close proximity of the redeveloped site, despite being on the other side of the busy Anzac Parade highway.

"The club's hard infrastructure would be built into the stadium in theory, and the fields over in Moore Park West would be where we would train," said Townsend.

"We are in discussions with the Centennial Parklands Trust who's master plan aligns those fields to elite use.

"We think there is an opportunity to base ourselves in Moore Park."

However it is understood the club aren't ruling out land in local council areas to base their Centre of Excellence instead of the options at Macquarie University and Moore Park.
