It doesn't get bigger than this - a the top of the table A-League clash between the reigning Champions and the kings of the ‘Castle, Jets.
It was heavy rain at Allianz Stadium, as Milos Ninkovic and Bobo finished well to secure the three points. Dimi Petratos scored a fire-bolt, but proved only a consolation.
Sydney FC were desperate to get back to winning ways following their shock defeat at the hands of Central Coast Mariners last week.
While, the flying Jets climbed to first after their comeback win in Adelaide.
But it was Sydney who emerged victorious to leapfrog to the top of the table with an overall good performance, but Newcastle were unlucky not to get at least a point by the end of the match.

Sydney FC
Andrew Redmayne (GK)- 7
Made a great stop of Joey Champness’ chance in the first half and wasnt' really troubled before the break. Unable to stop Dimi Petratos’ goal due to poor goalkeeping.
Paulo Retre- 6.5
Good positioning and got himself involved, great passing but struggled with crosses in the first half. Did lack composure at times.
Came off in the 62nd minute in one of his better outings for the Sky Blues.
Alex Wilkinson-7.5
Alert and aware defending, made a crucial and last minute nip on Andrew Nabbout to deny an equaliser. Important interventions.
Jordy Buijs- 7.5
Was aware of the Jets’ long ball tactics, and created well from the back with great passing. Made an error that forced a Jets chance.
Michael Zullo- 8
Was energetic and his work rate was second-to-none. Accurate passes and cleverness, with good ball control.
Josh Brillante- 7.5
Great combination passing and won duels in the middle of the park. Great cross in the lead-up to the second goal.
Alex Brosque- 7
In his 179th appearance, the Captain was crisp and involved in Sydney’s attack with his terrific service. Could have had a crack at goal in the 51st, but tried to play in David Carney instead.
Brandon O'Neill- 8
Great tackling and work on the counter-attack. Had a chance in the first half but his hit was a touch too heavy. Solid defensively and intervened at important moments.
David Carney- 7
Fantastic on the ball and continuously beat his marker, pressured well.

Bobo- 9.5
What a game for the Brazilian, was busy with his lovely releases and leading the line. Had a great chance of his own in the 28th minute, as he got in behind Jets’ defence. With quick feet, he danced around three Jets, to pull off a composed, square nutmeg through to Ninkovic for the lead.
Capitalised on a Jack Duncan error, to double the lead and top off a great performance.
Milos Ninkovic- 8
Beautiful first time finish to put home his goal. Was energetic and put himself in great positions, which showed during the goal.
SUBS
Sebastian Ryall- 7
Great work and link-up play.
Adrian Mierzejewski- 5
Solid shift when was subbed on, couldn’t put through a clear-cut ball.
Charles Lokolingoy- 6.5
Debut, had a chance but lacked some sting, good effort. Should be proud of his first A-League match.
Newcastle Jets
Jack Duncan (GK)- 6
Wasn’t able to keep out Ninkovic’s goal despite getting a slight touch. Made two superb saves, one sliding and the other a diving, to keep his side in the game.
After all his work, it was his own error that caused the second goal, spilling the ball right into Bobo.

Daniel Georgievski- 4
Was desperate in his defending but should have done better to deny the goal. Good idea and effort with his header goal-ward.
Came off at half-time, as he has missed some game time in recent weeks.
Nigel Boogaard- 7
Good at shutting down and made up a lot of ground. Great hit to Kantarovski who missed the chance.
Nikolai Topor-Stanley- 6.5
Not committed defensively in first goal, but he got better with timing his tackles.
Ivan Vujica- 7.5
Let in Bobo way too easily in lead-up to goal, but improved with blocking, and placed a terrific ball in the area before halftime.
Ben Kantarovski- 4
Another that wasn’t good enough on the first goal. Missed a massive opportunity to level the ledger.
Steven Ugarkovic- 8.5
Strong presence, but found it difficult to contain Carney at times. Great effort to cross into Georgievski for a chance on goal.
Great run and shot on the edge of the area in the 69th minute. Had a much better second 45 minutes.

Dimitri Petratos- 8
Kept the ball well and looked dangerous, his ball in for Champness was superb. Wicked long-range bomb in typical Petratos fashion to get a goal back.
Jason Hoffman- 3
Started better in the second half, putting a cross in the area but went across the face of goal. Overall, wasn’t at his best.
Andrew Nabbout- 6
Looked dangerous around the box but couldn’t cause his usual problems. Did have chance before halftime but was cut-out, should have put it away.
Joe Champness- 6
Was sharp around the box and had a great chance early. Couldn’t get the right contact for his one-on-one versus Redmayne.
SUBS
Nick Cowburn- 7
Was lively, and in the midst of attacking play. Had a good headed effort on goal.
John Koutroumbis- N/A
Didn’t do enough to warrant a fair rating.
Lachlan Jackson- N/A
Didn’t do enough to warrant a fair rating.
