Sydney FC want to be playing in a newly developed Allianz Stadium by the 2020/21 A-League season.
The government is expected to dish out over $2 billion to knock down and rebuild both Allianz and ANZ Stadium in Sydney in the next few years.
However, Sydney FC want to ensure Allianz Stadium - their permanent home ground - is prioritised over ANZ Stadium.
And they want the redevelopment to happen as quickly as possible, setting a target of 2020 for the opening of the new 45-000 seater modern facility, which is expected to cost over $700 million.
Sydney FC Chairman Scott Barlow said: "Sydney FC is committed to Allianz Stadium and it will be our home for many years to come.
"As A-League Champions and one of the country’s fastest growing sporting clubs, our fans and teams deserve to play in a truly world class sporting facility.
"In order to achieve this, Allianz Stadium must be rebuilt as a priority given its relative age compared with other stadium in the network."
A club statement added: "A survey of almost 200 Sydney FC members and fans conducted by the Sydney Cricket and Sports Ground Trust during Sunday’s first home fixture of the season against Wellington Phoenix, revealed 88% of Sky Blues supporters were in favour of the construction of a new facility.
"86% agreed that members should have access to a modern facility while almost two-thirds of supporters backed the call for Allianz Stadium to be developed first.
"The current Allianz Stadium is thirty years old next year and is in desperate need of extra capital investment to turn it into a world-class sports venue.
"Sydney FC are lobbying for the redevelopment to happen quickly to give clarity to the club’s players, staff, Members, sponsors and fans going forward."
