The World Cup striker ignored the late overtures from the EPL giants who have been left desperate to sign a striker after a deal to lure Clinton Dempsey from Fulham fell through.

The Reds have been left with only two recognised strikers after the transfer deadline day disaster and have been chasing up any free agents in a bid to fill the gap in their squad.

But their plea to Del Piero came just hours too late.

The 37 year old had earlier finalised a deal with Sydney FC CEO Tony Pignata and agent Lou Sticca to join the A-League side for the new season starting next month.

And he refused to go back on his word, despite the lucrative glamour offer from Liverpool.

He is expected to sign the contract with Sydney at a press conference later today.

The sky blues managed to lure Del Piero in the biggest ever coup for the A-League after fending off other bids for his services from clubs including Southampton, FC Sion and Olympiakos.

Del Piero is believed to have agreed a one-year $2million deal with Sydney, turning down other offers worth $8-10 million...with the Australian lifestyle and potential legacy to the sport Down Under proving to be priceless in negotiations.
