AFTER a week of soul-searching, Sydney FC coach Vitezslav Lavicka says changes will be made against Fury – and he hinted strongly that embattled striker John Aloisi will start on Saturday.
Speaking before training at the SFS this morning, the Czech supremo said he was ready to ring the changes in order to snap a worrying three-match losing streak, starting with Saturday night's visit to the SFS by North Queensland Fury.
While tight-lipped on specifics, he strongly suggested that the former Socceroo hero would start in what could be a three-man strike force alongside pacy pair Alex Brosque and Mark Bridge.
"Yes, we have idea [about Aloisi's selection] but... Johnny is ready to play," said Lavicka. "Johnny is a good player and he played pretty good last game.
"He's ready to start same like the other players. But I don't like to say two or three days before a game but we are going to make some changes but I don't like to say now..."
With Sydney desperate for the three points, throwing Aloisi on from the start might just be the circuit breaker needed despite the fans' vocal criticisms of the former Serie A, La Liga and EPL striker.
Aloisi, 33, has scored four times this season and bagged a brace on the opening day against Fury in Townsville - something that may have played a part in this potential change in personnel.
And Lavicka backed his former Socceroo striker despite the boo-boys during Sydney's 3-1 loss to the Jets on Sunday when Aloisi came on as a second half replacement.
Lavicka said: "I know Johnny is an important player for us and he brings a benefit for the team's success at this moment."
As for his faltering team, Lavicka added he wanted the side to play the way they did at the start of the campaign.
He added: "We are going to make change but still we have two days before the game. We've talked about it and we will practice on the training now.
"We have some ideas, it's hard to say [explain them] in this moment. We want to play the same things as we played at the first part of this season. The base tactical things."
And in a sign of the desperate times, the former Czech Republic U/21 coach said there had been changes in the way he'd approached game analysis during the week, revealing players had been spoken to individually and in small groups.
Quizzed on why the change, he said the "difficult" situation the sky blues find themselves in warranted a new approach.
"We need to improve," he said. "The first part of the season we had good result and we play pretty good in defence.
"But in the last game [against Newcastle] especially we had a big problem in defending. We made lazy tactical mistakes and they punished us."
Despite the doom and gloom a win on Saturday night for the second-placed sky blues could reduce the gap on ladder leader Melbourne Victory to just two points. The reigning champions have a difficult task away to Phoenix on Friday night.
However a win to the Melbourne side and a fourth loss for Sydney would stretch the lead to eight points and Lavicka underlined the importance of Saturday night.
He added: "We know now we must lift up. Victory against Fury, we want to win.
"We have small targets. We are frustrated, disappointed, but we don't give up. We want to change and we have a desire to do it."
