Two strikes, one from powerfully built Ben Vidaic - who was released by the A-League club in February - and a cool finish courtesy of his strike partner Luka Glavas helped the visitors secure three points in the NSW premier league at Lambert Park.

The victory should push United into the top four (depending on other results in the round). The Tigers remain mid-table.

Glavas, 23, says he hopes to rebuild his A-League career after a rollercoaster career over the last two years but is just happy to be back at a club he knows well.

“If I keep scoring goals, the confidence will come back,” he told au.fourfourtwo.com after the match.

“I’ve played alongside Viddy [Vidaic] before so it’s always easier when you know the player.

“Melbourne [the VPL] wasn’t good for me so I’m happy to be back here and it’s easier for me here. Everyone knows me and I know them.”

In 2006, the wiry striker was hot property on the state league scene. He bagged a remarkable four goals to help United win the NSW premier league grand final 4-1. He soon was picked up by Perth Glory.

Although used mainly off the bench, the tall forward scored twice for Glory including one memorable goal against his hometown club Sydney FC at the football stadium.

Then Glory supreme Ron Smith surprisingly axed Glavas in January 2007 but he was soon picked up as cover for Sydney’s inaugural ACL campaign under new coach Branko Culina. But Glavas remained a squad player and was soon released.

Coincidentally, an interested spectator on Sunday was Culina who watched the clash together with Sydney FC’s new technical director Steve O’Connor.

Following the spell with FC, Glavas spent a nightmare few months in the Victorian Premier League in 2007 – a stint which included allegations of non-payment of wages - which left the player disillusioned with the game.

He returned to Sydney. But he’s scoring again and, together with Vidaic, is forming a very handy strike partnership at the pointy end of an impressive Sydney United side.

“I’m not going to worry about too much,” added Glavas, “I’m just going to let my football do the talking.

“Of course I still have A-League ambitions. I enjoyed my time with Perth but for the time being I’ll just concentrate on this league.”
