The victory pushed Olympic into the top five of the NSW premier league and sets up a huge match this Saturday night against ladder-leading Sutherland Sharks at Belmore.

The cross-town derby lived up to the hype with an entertaining and controversial clash at Marconi stadium on Saturday night in front of around 2000 fans.

Mayora was the pick of the night with some top drawer finishing while Olympic's midfield metronome Peter Zorbas ran the show at the head of a bustling five-man midfield.

And at the right back, Olympic starlet Shannon Cole showed why he's one of the hottest talents outside the A-League with an energetic and skilful performance.

This included hitting the bar with one free kick and a second set piece later resulting in a goal for Mayora.

For Marconi, Nahuel Arrarte was effective while striker Tolgay Ozbey was lively up front. Ante Deur's first half goal was set up by the former Jet but it was to prove to be Marconi's only joy on a terribly disappointing night for the home side.

Cole told au.foufourtwo.com after the match that despite the side's second win on the spin – scoring seven goals in the process - there is plenty for the former NSL champs to improve on.

“We can't get ahead of ourselves. At half time Milan[Blagojevic] wasn't happy – we were a step behind everything and weren't winning the 50-50s. And we were kinda playing on the counter attack in the first half, which wasn't in the plan.”

Mayora slammed his first goal inside the first five minutes with a powerful low strike from just outside the box.

A second soon followed with another impressive shot and the 21-year-old's third came on 25 minutes after a superb free kick from Cole was parried by Marconi keeper James Chronopoulos and he was there to slot home the loose ball.

However the striker blotted his copybook with a rash challenge with 25 minutes to go and he was given a straight red by referee Kris Griffiths Jones.

Olympic coach Milan Blagojevic described the send off as “a bit naive” on the part of Mayora. “But he'll learn from it,” added the former Olyroo star.

Griffiths Jones' performance was also something he'll learn from. He appeared unnecessarily card happy issuing a plethora of yellows and one red for a game that was never dirty.

Blagojevic told au.fourfourtwo.com that he felt his side kept its shape after going down to ten men. “Overall I was quite happy but it was scrappy from both sides in the second half.”

Marconi travel to Manly to play United this Friday night hoping to snap their three-game winless streak while Olympic's home tie with the Sharks should be one of the picks of the round.
