There had been speculation that the Scottish champions were heading to Australia as part of their preparations for the 2008/9 season.

Both Sydney and Melbourne Victory had been linked with hosting the match but it certainly won't be John Kosmina's men.

Club spokesman Dave Mason told au.fourfourtwo.com: "It won't be happening this year, it's on the back burner. But that's not to say we wouldn't look at a high profile pre-season fixture in the future."

The time factor is likely to be one reason why the match will not happen. It is simply too short notice for the club to reap maximum reward on the commercial front.

But the phenomenal success of the LA Galaxy friendly last November means that it is almost certainly a case of 'when' not 'if' for further glamour clubs to hit Sydney.

Meanwhile, the club has welcomed the scheme to introduce a junior marquee structure next season.

An Olyroo star will be allowed to receive part of his wage outside of the salary cap, as an incentive to remain in the A-League that little bit longer.

Mason said: "We still have to get our heads around it (the exact details) but as a concept it's a great idea."
