Wilkinson is expected to debut in sky blue when Sydney FC travel to Wollongong in the FFA Cup Round of 32 on Wednesday.

“Everyone is looking forward to the FFA Cup,” Wilkinson said. “It’s the first competition we’ve got a chance to win this year.

“Obviously we as a team have set goals to win all three competitions and it’s something we’re going to work towards and the first step is Wollongong.”

Sydney missed the finals last season having made the 2014-15 Grand Final in Graham Arnold’s first season in charge.

The Sky Blues have never gone beyond the FFA Cup quarter-finals and will be wary of Wollongong after Central Coast Mariners and Adelaide United crashed out to NPL opposition.

“We’ve seen in the cup over the last few weeks with the A-League teams, there’s been a couple of upsets already from state league teams,” Wilkinson said.

“One hundred percent we won’t be taking it easy. It’s the first step in a competition we want to win. It’s important we go out there with the right attitude.”

Wilkinson is one of several signings that Arnold has made for the new campaign, including Michael Zullo, Josh Brillante, Bernie Ibini and Danny Vukovic. The central defender is likely to start against Wollongong.

“I haven’t had a chance to play in the competition yet,” he said. “But I watched the games this year and even overseas last year I watched a lot of the games.

“It seems to be a fantastic competition for Australia and Australian football.

“We’ve seen this year already some of the results which have popped up have been great for local teams. Local teams getting fans out to games and getting support which is fantastic.

“I’ve heard there’s going to be a pretty good crowd on Wednesday night against Wollongong which would be great. Hopefully Sydney FC can get a few fans out there as well.”
