SOCCEROOS hero John Aloisi is set to be unveiled as Sydney's marquee star today (Monday) after Central Coast Mariners gave up the fight to keep him.
Sydney have called a press conference at 11am to unveil "several" new signings for next season.
It is believed that will include Aloisi, ex-Jets striker Mark Bridge and former Glory skipper Simon Colosimo.
The club swooped on Aloisi after he failed to agree a deal with Central Coast Mariners.
They confirmed yesterday that they had walked away from the negotiating table two weeks ago after their best offer was rejected.
The club was confident no-one else in Australia would match their offer and only possible deals in the UK or Japan may lure Aloisi away.
And Sydney appeared to be out of the running after chairman Andrew Kemeny's broadside against Aloisi when he chose to join the Mariners last October.
“John Aloisi, without disclosing the amount of money he's on, was asking for the rest of the season – that's till January which is less than half a season – as much as the most expensive marquee signing,” said a miffed Kemeny at the time.
“I could probably get two or three Michael Bridges for that price," said Kemeny. "People said in the media we'd missed out. We hadn't. John priced himself out.”
The two appear to have resolved their differences now and will be sat side by side tomorrow, along with coach John Kosmina.
However, the future of Sydney's injury-plagued marquee star from last season, Juninho, still hangs in the balance.
He is believed to have been wooed by rival A-League clubs, but there has also been speculation he may stay at Sydney, but taking a wage within the salary cap.
