Sydney FC winger David Carney says his side aren’t bothered by the state of the Allianz Stadium surface which led to the NSW Government requesting the Waratahs move their Super Rugby match on Saturday.
The Allianz Stadium surface has been widely discussed, having deteriorated badly in recent weeks due to the increase in use with the NRL and Super Rugby season full swing.
The pitch was poor for Saturday’s semi-final between Sydney and Perth Glory, with A-League boss Greg O’Rourke conceding it’s the worst surface in the competition at the moment.
The situation led to Football Federation Australia and the SCG Trust meeting on Tuesday to discuss options, with the NSW Government asking the Waratahs to move their match against the Blues on Saturday night to North Sydney Oval to reduce further damage.
The Waratahs rejected the request which seemed ambitious given the late notice and logistical challenges coming with that.
Despite the situation, Carney said the Sky Blues wouldn’t whinge, even claiming it suits them.
“We played on that pitch and it’s not really been that great all season to be honest,” Carney said.
“It’s never affected us which is good. The way we press, sometimes it works in our advantage.
“Obviously being a final, you’d like to play on carpet.
“It is what it is, you can’t whinge about it. both teams have got to play on it so you’ve just got to get on with it.”
