Melbourne Victory made amends for their poor home performance against Sydney FC last weekend with a solid 2-0 win away to Adelaide United. Lisa De Vanna opened her Victory account for the season with a spot-kick before half-time after Jessie Wharepouri was adjudged to have fouled inside the box. Caitlin Friend got a head to the end of Steph Catley’s cross just before the hour-mark to double Victory’s lead and seal the three points.

Sydney FC kept up their strong start to the 2013-14 W-League season with another big win, disposing of the Newcastle Jets 4-0 in Wollongong. Renee Rollason got the Sky Blues off the mark with the last kick of the first-half, guiding a delightful free-kick over the wall and past Newcastle goalkeeper Eliza Campbell. Sam Kerr made it 2-0 on 68 minutes before Jodie Taylor grabbed a brace in the final ten minutes to secure a big win for the Sydney women.

Brisbane Roar 3 (Tameka Butt 3’, Clare Polkinghorne 63’, Amy Chapman 83’)

Brisbane Roar ensured they put their disappointing home loss against Canberra United last week behind them with a 3-0 win away to Perth Glory. Tameka Butt opened the scoring for the Roar after just three minutes when she chipped the ball over Perth goalkeeper Chantel Jones. Both sides had a number of chances to add to the scoring but it was not until shortly after the hour mark until another goal was scored. Clare Polkinghore was in the right place at the right time to convert from a spilled corner-kick before Amy Chapman put the finishing touches on the result with a stunning strike from outside the box.
 
 
Canberra United 2 (Michelle Heyman 25’, Stephanie Ochs 41’)

Venue: McKellar Park, Canberra
 Canberra United kept up the pace with Sydney FC at the top of the table with a dominant performance against the Western Sydney Wanderers in the nation’s capital. Michelle Heyman slotted past Dimi Poulos after being played in by Tori Huster to open the scoring on 25 minutes. The home side then doubled their lead shortly before the break as Heyman turned provider for Stephanie Ochs who expertly dispatched the ball in to the back of the net and seal the victory.
