In late October, the Sky Blues were publicly furious with the FFA opting to give Melbourne City home ground advantage in the final which they ultimately won 1-0 on Wednesday night.

An FFA Cup final record crowd of 18,751 fans turned out at AAMI Park, but Arnold was adamant there would have been more at Allianz Stadium.

“One thing that was disappointing was it was a fantastic occasion but it wasn’t a full house,” Arnold said.

“I think if we played in Sydney it would’ve been.”

A crowd of between 15,000 and 20,000 was projected and the final figure was an improvement of more than 3,500 on last season’s figure at the same venue for Melbourne Victory’s win over Perth Glory.

Sydney chairman Scott Barlow publicly slammed the FFA for their decision to host the final in Melbourne back in October.

"The FFA has got this decision completely wrong. It's a slap in the face to all Sydney FC fans," Barlow told News Corp.

"It was made purely to maximise the profit the FFA will make from the game."

"The fact that last year's grand final was also held in Melbourne was completely ignored. The fact that we have the best record coming into this final was completely ignored.

"The fact that all five of our FFA Cup games will be away games was completely ignored - despite Melbourne City having three home games.”

Prior to the cup final venue decision, Sydney CEO Tony Pignata argued the club’s case, given they hadn’t hosted a FFA Cup game all campaign.

"Sydney people love a big event, and I'm expecting a good crowd if the final is at Allianz," Pignata said.

"We haven't had a home game the whole FFA Cup this season as well.

"Melbourne had the final last year and Adelaide has also had it, so I think it's Sydney's turn now. Our fans deserve a final."

It has long been argued the FFA Cup final should be played on a weekend but the FFA has shown no signs of changing the current midweek set-up.
