The young Sky Blues have enjoyed a dream run through the first seven rounds of the youth competition but they know their first defeat could be just around the corner if they drop their guard against Glory.

“Last Friday’s game was about making sure they kept their intensity up,” said coach, Steve O’Connor.

"The match was all about maintaining the level of play we’ve been having over the last couple of weeks.

“The boys have been playing some good football but there’s still plenty of room for improvement and we’ve got to make sure we stay focused if we’re going to stay ahead of the competition.”

While the FC side is strong across the park, it’s up-front that the team has been doing the damage against opposition line-ups, with striker Sean Rooney leading an attack that’s scored plenty of goals in the first five games, and threatened to claim many more.

“The movement's there, the balls are getting played too, we’ve just got to start finishing more,” Rooney assessed.

“It’s the big thing I’ve got to work on personally. I can get into the positions, I’ve just got to finish it off.”

Chris Payne, who claimed a double last weekend against Tasmania, added: “It’s good to keep the winning form going.

“The boys have been doing well, we’re all playing well, and hopefully the wins will keep coming.”

On Saturday the side can extend its winning streak against fourth-placed Perth Glory at Seymour Shaw Park. Entry to the Miranda ground is free of charge and the match kicks off at 2:30pm.
