FRANK Lowy offered words of hope but few specifics about Australia’s World Cup bid for 2018-2022, describing the “sympathy” vote as a potential positive.
To see Qantas's unveiling as a World Cup bid partner...

In May the FFA must submit its Bid Book - a technical report that includes stadia details. The final decision on hosting by FIFA won't come until December as the furious backroom politicking continues.
Speaking at the launch of the Qantas Come Play aircraft, Lowy said Australia being part of Asia was critical to exposing the game in such a huge market.
And he hoped the fact that Australia had yet to host the Cup would count for something.
"It's a contest, nine nations competing against us," said Lowy. "And all of them with the exception of Indonesia - which decided not to go ahead - are putting their best foot forward in promising buildings and stadia.
"And I think there is a sympathy for Australia. We are a part of the Asian Confederation and we're giving the opportunity to FIFA exposure to football in Asia better than in most other places.
"I think we're doing well. It's not easy, but we are working very hard. It is a contest but Australia is doing well in the contest and I'm confident we will prevail."
Lowy also expressed his admiration for what the A-League has achieved saying the March 20 grand final between Melbourne Victory and Sydney FC had made waves around the world.
He added: "I had a lot of comments from around the world, they couldn't believe Australia can produce such an atmosphere and such a game after only five years the A-League being in existence.
"My reply was, 'Australia can keep surprising you more and more'."
The Come Play branded Qantas jet will be used on the airline's international routes to further help Australia's World Cup bid around the globe.
